New Text Message Scam Circulating
Please be aware that there is a new text message scam targeting BCT Federal Credit Union stating members online banking accounts have been locked. Please DO NOT respond to the number provided as it is a scam attempting to collect your personal account information. Scammers will use your information to process transactions from your account. Please be reminded that BCT Federal Credit Union DOES NOT communicate with its members through text messages or email. Anyone who has any questions concerning this alert is advised to contact our office at 607-724-3247.

Recruitment Scam
Please be advised that Fraud rings around the United States are recruiting individuals to open accounts at credit unions with the intent to committ fraud. Once the account is opened, the individual applies for a Debit card with a PIN number and.or a checking account. The card and PIN or checking account information is then used for fraudulent purposes. These same fraud rings are also recruiting existing credit union members willing to sell personal or financial information. The member will then be instructed to file a claim with the credit union that the transactions completed were fraudulent.
If a member reports such a case they may be required to file a police report and may be required to press charges against those individuals that recruited them and they may also be required to sign documentation, under penalty or perjury stating they did not participate in the fraudulent activity.

Stay Ahead of Scams
Recently, many area residents have been contacted via a cell phone by an automated system. The message notifies the individual that their debit/credit card has been deactivated. It further advises that the individual should call the 800 number provided in order to re-activate their cards. Unfortunately, this is a common practice that scammers are using to obtain individuals debit/credit card information with the intentions of defrauding the individual.
BCT does not communicate with our members via text message or automated systems to notify of such issues. If you receive a text message or phone call please do not respond to their requests. You should notify your credit union or bank immediately as well as your local police department. The more complaints they receive the closer they may get to locating the root of the problem.

BCT Employee of the Year
BCT is proud to recognize and congratulate Mary Bishop, Member Services Representative, as Employee of the Year 2009. Mary has been with us since August of 2007 and has proven herself to be an exceptional member services representative and a valued member of our staff. She currently works in our Montrose branch after working at both of Binghamton and Endicott branches prior. Mary's work ethic and cheerful demeanor is an example to us all. She is always the first one to jump at any task and always represents herself and BCT in a manner that reflects the finest examples of professionalism and member service. Please be advised that as of November 1, 2009; any items received with the old ABA/Routing number will be returned unpaid. If you have not received checks with the new ABA/Routing number please contact us at 607-724-3247 and we will be happy to assist you in getting an order placed. Extention of September 30, 2009 Deadline
BCT has received an extension of the original September 30, 2009 deadline for items to process through your account. Effective October 20, 2009 the ABA/Routing number, 091901972, will be discontinued. Any items received or submitted for payment, with the discontinued routing number, after that date, will be returned, unpaid.
If you have not received new checks with the new ABA/Routing number please contact us at 607-724-3247 and we will be glad to place an order of checks for you.
We are providing an update to the notice previously sent to you inregards to the change to the ABA/Routing number. As of September 14, 2009, the new ABA/Routing number will be 221373736. We are making every effort to contact each and every company responsible for your direct deposit, as well as each and every company where you have electronic payments deducted from your account. However, to ensure a smooth transition, please follow-up with the various companies responsible for your electronic deposits and withdrawals to verify they have updated your accounts. The ABA/Routing number currently in effect will be discontinued as of September 30,2009. Any checks received or submitted for payment, with the discontinued routing number, after that date, will be returned, unpaid. If you have ordered checks with BCT within the past year, you will be receiving new checks with the updated ABA/Routing number, free of charge to you.
